Mariana Amieva is a member of the Grupo de Estudios Audiovisuales (Universidad de la República) and teaches History and Film Language at Universidad ORT Uruguay. She is a researcher in the Sistema de Nacional de Investigadores-Agencia Nacional de Investigación e Innovación. She is co-editor of the book La crítica uruguaya ante el cine nacional (1920-2001) and has published articles in Studies in Spanish & Latin American Cinemas, Imagofagia, Cine Documental, Cuadernos del Centro Latinoamericano de Economía Humana, and Dixit.

Cinephilias in Dispute in the Montevideo Cineclub Movement of the 1950s
In the late 1940s, two highly significant cineclubs were founded in the city of Montevideo, Uruguay, building on the work of Cine Arte del SODRE, an initiative of the state-run broadcaster and cultural agency Servicio Oficial de Radiodifusión Eléctrica, which sought to create a public space for the diffusion of alternative cinema beginning in 1944.
