Melissa Jane Hardie is Associate Dean Undergraduate in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney.  Recent publications include a chapter on post-structuralism and queer theory and forthcoming is a consideration of the closet after queer theory.

Sidney Lumet’s 1975 film Dog Day Afternoon represents sexual identity in the early 1970s in terms of an “ante-closet” temporally and spatially located “ahead” of or “before” more familiar closet epistemologies.
